People tend to stay in the animal health industry for long periods of time, and I am one of them! My career began as Technical Representative at Virbac Laboratories in Auckland, which eventually led to Group General Manager and Director at VetPartners New Zealand.
While I haven’t pursued promotions or role advancement with any particular burning ambition; it has happened naturally with time, experience, and proven results, as well as a truly supportive team. I did complete a Diploma in Advanced Management with the New Zealand Institute of Management, which taught me valuable skills and allowed me to meet other senior managers.
I’ve found my career very rewarding, with each previous role providing experience and knowledge to move to the next, thereby allowing me to reach my current position. In my current role, I face complex business challenges daily, and I’m constantly impressed with my talented team’s dedication, attitude, and expertise.
The most rewarding roles are the hardest as when successful, they bring the most satisfaction. This includes the relationships with the individuals and teams around you. That’s what I love the most – the people. I’m surrounded by very talented people that make me look good! Working with these people, and watching them develop, is a highlight of my job.
I see my next step as COO or CEO, and my current role certainly helps develop these skills, with the interaction, knowledge, and experience across all aspects of business.
